Dota Renew Dwarven Sniper

AOE = Area of Effect, BF = Bone Fletcher

Basic

Sniper has 512 base hp. He has a normal amount of base hp at all levels. His mana regeneration normal. He is typically a defender, hero-killer due to the nature of his skills. His best skill early on for melee and summoners would be Hand Bombs, due to the AOE. Headshut would be the second skill due to the damage, ministun, and range increase. Hunt is typically disregarded as it is a channeling skill. One cannot move while using the skill and must wait there for 3 seconds. During those 3 seconds, a number of things can happen. For example, if you are laning a BF, he can hit you 5 or 6 times, and with searing arrows on then that will amount to over 400 effective damage. Not a good trade.

Movespeed: 300

Attackspeed: average

He is a good all-around unit. His primary usefulness is early game laning. He should have the advantage in getting gold and harassing heroes. He should be able to get the last hit and the hero hits easily. This makes him one of the best laners.

Skills

Hand Bombs

I am going to make this clear, if there side has a summoner, max out Hand bombs unless you have an AOE defender such as Titan of the Order or Frost Maiden. It is your best skill as it is up to 350 damage in a small range. It's casting time is instant. The mana cost is a bit high and increases per level, but that is expected. It has a relatively quick cooldown.

Headshut

Passive, no mana. You should max out Headshut second, as it gives you the additional harass range in lane and when chasing. Every additional levels gives you a higher percentage of bash, more normal attack range, and bash damage. That is a pretty good deal if I have to say. After maxing this skill out, you have more range than towers! (They have 700 range as you will have 750)

Hunt

I usually get 1 or 2 levels of Hunt. I personally only use it for the stun. But to use it for the stun, you will have to predict when they will cast spells. I use it to knock out people from teleporting (however, you have to start casting it before they start teleporting), knock out Sidereal Engine's collapse, Lunar Matriarch's eclipse, and Frost Maiden's Blizzard. I'd rather do the 100% 3 second stun if it ensures canceling those skills rather than taking my luck with 25% headshut ministun. You could use the skill as a harass for those that stay in the back to push them out of range of EXP. This skill should be avoided leveling until necessary.

Suicide Bombs:

High damage in a VERY small AOE. The damage farther from the source dissipates exponentially. To do the full amount of damage you must land it perfectly on a hero. This is a very hard skill to use the first few times. IT AUTOMATICALLY BLOWS UP ON THE NEAREST ENEMY UNIT IF YOU DO NOT DISABLE AUTO-KABOOM. To disable it from blowing up automatically, after summoning, quickly select the unit and right click the auto-kaboom in the bottom left of it's skills. Then you are allowed free use of it. This spell also deals damage to friendly units, so you can kill your allies with this skill. The good thing about this skill is that it becomes a summoned unit after casting the spell and it moves faster than any unit. It is separate from the sniper so it can be used to push a hero into you or used to go for another hero in a different area of the map. Another good thing about this skill is that it will be targetted by towers, even if units are targetting a hero. This makes it so you can make use of your headshut ability while even in tower range!

Skill Builds

So a typical skill build would be..

Against a summoner.

Hand bombs - Headshut - Hand bombs - Headshut - Hand bombs - Suicide Bomb - Handbombs - Headshut - Headshut ...

Otherwise...

Headshut - Hand bombs - Headshut - Hand bombs - Headshut - Suicide Bomb - Headshut - Hand bombs - Hand bombs ...

After those you can mix and match the X ability with the Hunt ability, but always get Suicide bomb when available (level 6/11/16).

Items

A Ring of Basilius is a good choice as should satisfy all your mana needs. It also helps you push your lane, which is very helpful as it will give your enemy less lee-way to come the trees.

It is typical to either get a circlet of nobility and gauntlet of strength to make a strength bracer for the initial boost in health as it can be hard with the low hp.

Get boots of speed as soon as reasonble. If you find yourself with a decent amount of health for most of the game (at least 300) then you might want to skip the gauntlet of strength and circlet of nobility.

Boots of Travel is a luxury that you will not need necessarily. I would recommend it if you are the only one defending and you have to lane hop very frequently. You can get away with treads, however.

Power Treads are probably a better idea, the +65 movespeed is helpful, an additional 25 over the boots of speed. The attackspeed will help make use of your Headshut ability. I would recommend strength power treads so you can get them a bit sooner (they cost less) and get bonus HP.

The ideal Sniper will make use of his headshut ability and maximize his attackspeed. You want to turn your sniper into a machine-gun sniper. If you get your guy with 200% attackspeed, he will attack 4 times/second. With 25% chance, that should keep your opponent in a lock.

To start off with, however, you should stick with something cheaper as 4 hyperstones would be a high gold amount. Get gloves of haste. An oblivion staff might be helpful if you are finding yourself running out of mana.

Other items that you probably would want is a Desolator, as the negative armor is very effective. You can basically give it to every enemy hero as well since you have 750 range and by the time you can afford one, probably fast attackspeed. This means you can alternate attacks and damage them separately, so the creeps can deal more damage. I would recommend focus firing still on one hero, howwever. The negative armor is very helpful.

Get a Hybernator. The +6 all stats is quite helpful, but the main thing is the frost orb effect. With 750 range, you will be able to catch up to many heroes even if they're nearly out of range. Just fire one hit and walk ahead, fire another when the attack is available, and so on.

Example Item Build (early game)

Ring of Basilius

Boots of Speed

Belt of Strength

--------

340 Movespeed, enough mana to use hand bombs frequently, and should be enough hp to withstand most laners.

Example Item Build (mid-game)

Ring of Basilius

Weapons of Chieftain [for attackspeed and the health]

Power Treads [agility since I have the axe]

Hyperstone

Scroll of Teleportation x2 [to let you teleport to one lane and back home]

------

This will give you an additional 80% attackspeed, putting you at around 1.5-2 hits/second.

Example Item Build (late game)

Boots of Teleportation [no room for scrolls any more]

Hybernator

Hyperstone

Hyperstone

Hyperstone

Ghost Key

----------

This is a VERY expensive build, but makes you nearly a permastunner with free roaming around the map. The Ghost Key is to get either the extra distance to capture a hero or to run away incase things get too dangerous.

hand bombs fail bro all bout hunt and ulti u can one hit almost any hero at lvl 6

hellothere 21 months ago

btw this is all wrong. hunt is best for killing summoners and handbombs cost too much mana per damage. my build is handbombs, hunt, headshot, then max hunt/headshot but get suicide when possible, then get handbombs. Or max handbombs and hunt. Dwarven Sniper is a great hero and build should be hybernator, boots of trav, sow, bloodfury
